Embedded Course Travel at Duke

Duke University supports students on every aspect of their academic journey – including embedded course travel. The Office of Global Health and Safety (OGHS) assists faculty leading Duke course trips with the planning and organization of a trip away from Duke’s campus.

What is embedded course travel?

Embedded course travel is a component of a Duke semester or summer course which consists of a trip to a domestic or international location away from Duke’s Durham campus. Embedded course travel takes place during the course’s academic term and lasts between 2-10 days. Embedded course travel is designed to supplement and enhance the academic aspects of a course and is written into the course description and syllabus. Planning for an embedded course trip can take up to 12 months. Learn more.
